Photo of the Day 09/17/10 - I Got My Eye on You

I've never been a car person, necessarily; they're a mode of transportation, which covers it for me. I'm not a tinkerer by nature, either, at least where cars coming into it. However, I do think classic cars are darn cool, especially well restored gems of the 1940s and 1950s. It was an era of real design, adventuresome thinking and dramatic lines. Not like the last 20 years of bland pod people transport. I'm fairly certain this is a '54 Thunderbird (could be a '56, but I don't remember exactly). Either way, the owner lovingly restored it to almost perfect condition.

One of the nice things about traveling to visit family in New Jersey is that they live right next to the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge in Morris County. It's a gorgeous stretch of marshes and woody swamps teeming with wildlife, especially birds. Now, I'll be the first to admit that I remember bird species about as well as I remembered tree species when I was a Boy Scout years ago; for some reason, that's just not information I retain. However, I do love to get out there an walk around when I get the chance and grab a shot when it presents itself. This, I think, is a thrush, possibly a wood thrush, which is common to this refuge. I'd love to hear from you if this isn't correct or you know the variety. This particular bird was only there for a moment, and then gone. Pays to be paying attention to your surroundings on a walk.
