Photo of the Day 10/09/10 - Living is Easy with Eyes Closed

Today would have been the 70th birthday of one John Winston Ono Lennon, late of The Beatles and always a legend. Like so many genuine talents, taken too soon for al the wrong reasons. Each time I see this sign in Bethlehem, N.H., I think of Strawberry Fields, of course. Today, I think of John and what the world lost.

Jonatha Brooke is amazing. Let's just start there. I've been an avid listener and fan for probably 15 years, all the way back to her days as part of The Story with Jennifer Kimball (who I also like quite a lot in her solo work). We caught up with Jonatha last week in Bethlehem, N.H. I hadn't seen her perform in a few years, and it was worth the wait. Her voice is still powerful and perfect, her sense of humor and humility shines through in all her work, and her interaction with the audience is always great fun. If you get a chance to see her on this set of dates, I can't recommend it enough.

Swing over to her site, www.jonathabrooke.com, and give it a listen.

For a larger version, just click the image above. Can't sell this one, but if Jonatha's reading this blog, by some random chance, I'll be more than honored to send this and the rest over for you to use as you will!

Photo of the Day 08/08/10 - Future Present Past Imperfect

There's something hopeful and hopeless about this. The spaces are there because they were once filled and are now not (like too many small towns around the Northeast), and yet, they remain there as a reminder of the potential, the possibilities. Half full, half empty. Your call.

Photo of the Day 08/07/10 - Magical Mystery Store

A place that appears disastrous and cluttered to the casual eye is more often than not just that: a mess. Sometimes, though, there's a whimsy, a pattern, a subtle directive just below the surface. The sign says "Closed," but it's very much open to the world and plain as day.
