Photo of the Day 11/03/10 - Never Trust a Tie

I can’t quite remember where this is, but I saw this iconic little graphic piece of graffiti twice in New York City, once very small, tagged on a bank and then much larger (I think this was about 2 feet high or larger) on a building the next day. I like the symbolism, and the various levels of what this could and can mean. It’s bright, sophisticated art, ruined only by the crappy tag above it, ironically enough. While my thoughts on graffiti tend towards the spectrum that thinks it’s wrong and almost always tacky (like the tag above, or some idiot who spray paints a tag on a 4,000-year-old monument in Athens, say), there is some amazing graffiti art out there, and in the right setting, it’s pretty powerful.

Anyone else seen this?

Photo of the Day 10/26/10 - Nothing Says Love

Like a copilot on the watch, keeping an eye on troublemakers standing on street corners with cameras, of course.

This is a scene from somewhere in New York City’s SoHo district on a walk around town. It just jumped out at me. She was just sitting in the intersection in traffic, waiting for things to move. It was tiny gesture, but moving all the same.

Photo of the Day 09/20/10 - Writing on the Wall

Wandering around the Niagara Falls National Park area, stateside, you mostly see water, trees and tourists, but sometimes something interesting jumps out.

Photo of the Day 06/24/10 - A Peace of Nature Reclaimed

I rented a Canon 5D Mark II for a job this weekend, so I took a wander around yesterday for a first run through. I've never used one, so I want to be comfortable with the different layout and settings. What a fantastic camera. Great service from LensRentals, too. I'm going to take full advantage of the rental, that's for sure!

Some days, even the simplest haven from the maddening crowds is just enough to keep you going.
