Photo of the Day - Daybreak, Homefront

Daybreak, Homefront

Ah, sunrise. Even over the most humble abode, daybreak signals a new day, a new opportunity, a new challenge.

Buy it here, won’t you?

Photo of the ... Week?

Yeah, that sounds much more reasonable, doesn’t it?

=*)

So, beginning with the new year, you’ll be treated to 52 fresh new images, each Monday to start your week on the right foot. At the end of the year, I’ll make a 2011 Photos of the Week coffee table book available for sale.

As for 2010’s Photo of the Day vault, look for a massive book in the beginning of January with 100 full page images, a sort of Best of 2010 Through the lens.

Thanks for your support this year, and look forward to much more in 2011!

Photo of the Day 11/28/10 - Eyes on the Blue Horizon

It’s been a while… hello, Photo of the Day.

This particular shot is the result of a puppy waking me up about 5 a.m. during our usually Thanksgiving stay in Glover. Normally, I’d roll over and go back to sleep, like any right-minded human, but for some reason, I got up. I assume this is the reason. Standing in the 8-degree morning air—in my flannel pajamas, which provided only minimal protection, I might add—freezing up nicely, I tripod-mounted the camera to avoid my shivering shakes and tried to capture the amazing pre-sunrise horizon line in this panoramic. The sunrise itself wasn’t quite so spectacular, but this was well worth the cold wake-up call.

This is a 2:1 ratio panorama, available on my Smugmug account in various sizes.

Photo of the Day 11/04/10 - Keep Your Options Open

I like buildings. I like windows. New York City’s got no shortage of either.

Photo of the Day 11/03/10 - Never Trust a Tie

I can’t quite remember where this is, but I saw this iconic little graphic piece of graffiti twice in New York City, once very small, tagged on a bank and then much larger (I think this was about 2 feet high or larger) on a building the next day. I like the symbolism, and the various levels of what this could and can mean. It’s bright, sophisticated art, ruined only by the crappy tag above it, ironically enough. While my thoughts on graffiti tend towards the spectrum that thinks it’s wrong and almost always tacky (like the tag above, or some idiot who spray paints a tag on a 4,000-year-old monument in Athens, say), there is some amazing graffiti art out there, and in the right setting, it’s pretty powerful.

Anyone else seen this?
