Sometimes a scene or image will jump out at you, and sometimes it will sneak up on you. This one snuck up on me while I was descending the falls, while I paused to check my footing. Never know.

Nearly at the top of the Silver Cascades flume in Crawford Notch State Park, you'll find this amazing little scene—calm, quiet, restorative. Worth the climb, to be sure.

A little sandpiper, who didn't seem bothered by me in a least, skittered its way around the beach at Lake Willoughby in Westmore, Vermont, while I shot the waning sun. Nice fellow. Quiet, kept to himself and kept busy.

Another from my series from the Silver Cascade in Crawford Notch State Park (Bartlett, N.H.). This gash in the rocks shows the power of time and water over everything. Further down, the walls are upwards of 20' high on either side. At this time of year, with no recent rains, it's just a trickle ... harmless enough, in theory.
