Fun with Food Photography, or How to Eat Cheese, Drink Beer and Succeed in Business

Recently, I was asked by the lovely folks at the CELLARS at Jasper Hill in Greensboro, Vermont, to do a photoshoot for an upcoming ad campaign in Culture magazine’s summer beer and cheese special section. The cheese was to be paired with Jasper Hill’s neighbor and world-renowned brewery, Hill Farmstead Brewery, which is about as natural a thing as you can imagine.  I accepted, of course. Great cheese and beer, plus photography? Can’t miss.

The final ad, which was put together by Lori A. Halsey:

All in all, it was a great experience. As with each new project, I learn different techniques, which potholes to drive around and what not to do next time.

Was the cheese good? Darn right. Keep an eye out for the issue this summer at finer cheese shops and the like.

As for me, I’m going to enjoy a little more of the Winnemere and a glass of Edward pale ale.

Cheers!

Photo of the Week 01-03-2011 The New Year Opens InA new year, a new post. This door opens into the new, soon-to-be open brewery expansion over at Hill Farmstead Brewery in Greensboro, Vt. It was crafted by brewer and owner Shaun Hill’s brother Darren of Leaning Maples Woodcraft. Craftsmanship in the genes…

Photo of the Day 09/19/10 - Open Wide and Say Ahh

Bottling day at Hill Farmstead Brewery in Greensboro, Vermont. I ran over after work Friday last to pitch in with bottling duties as best I could. They day's grand total was around 1,100 bottles, all hand filled and hand capped. I helped with a few hundred, and was glad to have been able to do it. The bottles above were destined for one of three barrel-aged versions of Fear and Trembling, a smoked Baltic porter. One in a French oak Napa Cabernet barrel, one blend of American oak Napa Cabernet and Buffalo Trace Bourbon (and Sam Adams Utopias) barrels, and one in a single Buffalo Trace barrel. I assure you, all of them are amazing.

If you're in or near Vermont October 2nd, I can't recommend enough getting to the brewery for the festival where these will be debuted, along with other goodies. Check the brewery site for details.

Hill Farmstead Brewery Photo Shoot

Back on September 2, I had the opportunity to work with the folks at Hill Farmstead Brewery in Greensboro, Vermont, to create some product shots, as well as work images. It's a place I've spent a fair amount of time, since owner Shaun Hill's beers are a favorite of mine. So, one gorgeous afternoon, we worked on products, clothing (with our able and handsome model Owen Miller, who also works at the brewery) and some working shots, since they were in the midst of another brew day.

I had a fantastic afternoon, and I always love hanging out with Shaun and Owen. On this day, we were joined by Shaun's friend Ryan Witter-Merithew, also a brewer with Fanø Bryghus, who had come to town from Denmark to collaborate with Shaun on a holiday beer.

If you're near Greensboro, or can get there, I highly recommend making the trek.
